I feel sure that, like myself, it is no fun to be categorised as "old and vulnerable"! Many of us have witnessed a number of times of disruption and hardship in our lives, and consider ourselves to be resourceful, hardy, and willing to share the burden of getting back on our feet. Many of you are volunteers, some still working, often helping out massively with grand-children and much more. I am convinced that, given the opportunity, many would be stepping forward right now to help in any way that would offer support.
However, we are also of the generation that respects rules and guidelines. Our way to help right now is to follow government rules as an important part of the fight against the consequences of this disease. When we come through this period (and we will) our time will come, for much of our society and economy will require people like us to lead the way up. Best wishes David
I enclose below a message from Hilary McGrady, Director General, National Trust
"Following the Prime Minister`s announcements about the need for social distancing as part of the coronavirus response efforts, many of the National Trust`s places are closing temporarily. I know you will have a lot to think about during these uncertain times, but I want to thank you for your continued support and let you know what we can do to support you and your loved ones in return. The National Trust was founded for the benefit of the entire nation. Our role is to help people and nature to thrive, and we exist because millions of us share the belief that nature, beauty and history are for everyone. And while it might not be possible to visit all our places in person, they are still very much open for business virtually. You can check out our website and our collections online featuring objects and exhibits; download our podcasts and videos, and catch up on what`s new by registering for our newsletters. You can stay in touch with us on social media. We have lots of free content for you to enjoy. Over the coming weeks we will be ramping up our efforts to help people connect with nature, wherever they are. There is so much beauty to behold in the spring, even just from our windows. As always, I want to thank you for all you do to care for the nature, beauty and history that help unite and sustain us. Your ongoing support for our mission is greatly appreciated. The National Trust wishes your and yours continued safety and good health" Hilary McGrady. Director General National Trust
