From David Ebsworth Chairman of Worcester/Mavern NT Support Group
As we had all been fore-warned, the impact of Coronavirus is spreading throughout the UK (and Globally) and more advice and directives are being put forward by Government and their Team of advisers on how we should all respond.
Your committee has decided, that in line with many organisations, it is necessary for us to cancel all of our planned events during the rest of March, April, May and June.
At this stage it is too difficult to predict beyond that but we will continue to review and notify you of any further changes that may become advisable or necessary.
This means that our Social Lunch on 4th April, Talk on 6th April, Outing to Birmingham Museum 21st April, Outing to St Fagans 14th May, Outing to Malmesbury Abbey House on 2nd June and Outing to Berrington Court on 24th June are all cancelled. Currently, the situation on the Continent appears to be worse than the UK so it is also highly unlikely that the planned trip to the Loire in May will go ahead. Those who have booked for this holiday will be notified directly.
The cancellations will mean considerable admin work for our own organisers and volunteers, so please be patient as we decide on how and when we will refund booking fees. I feel sure that you will all understand the impact that this will have on our many suppliers, and just how difficult it will be for them to absorb the loss of business.
Along with every other organisation our main concern has to be the health of our members and others, and this consideration has determined our decision.
IF ANY OF YOU FEELS ISOLATED AND WOULD BENEFIT FROM HEARING A FRIENDLY VOICE ON THE END OF A TELEPHONE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RING FELICITY AND MYSELF ON 01684 560019 OR 07970 260007 or COMMITTEE MEMBERS AS PER THEIR CONTACTS IN OUR RECENT NEWSLETTER.
With the strong wish that you and your loved ones all remain strong and healthy
Dear WMNT Centre Member
If, like me, you are in denial, then Christmas is arriving FAR too early. Just where has 2019 gone?
Firstly, a reminder about our next Talk. This will be at Powick at 2.30pm on Saturday 14th December. The theme is “Jane Austen`s Christmas` and promises to be a lively event. Songs, banter and humour by our costumed presenters, followed by refreshments to include mince pies – clear your diaries for this fun occasion!!
Are you still looking for that “Special Gift” – to a loved one or yourself? Then please get in touch with Wendy Hill. There are still 2 or 3 tickets for Swan Lake on the 20th February. Hurry!
Whilst on the subject of spoiling yourself, then what better way than to sign up for next year`s trip to the Loire. Clive still has vacancies for singles, twins and doubles. Believe me, this is a superbly organised itinary for a magnificent area. SO much to see, SO much to enjoy. And the wine........ !
Finally, on behalf of your committee, may we all wish you a wonderful Festive Season with those you love. If you are travelling (home or abroad) then take care. And at some relative time pause to raise a glass to all of your fellow members, and those less fortunate than ourselves.
With Warm Festive Greetings
Gosh- how quickly the darker mornings and evenings have arrived! I am writing to you against a backdrop of beating rain on my windows and the suggestion that October will be a very wet month!
Autumn is here and this heralds the start of our Talks programme. Our first talk is on Tuesday, 8th October and will be held at Powick Village Hall. Our guest speaker, Sandy Cale, will talk to us about ELEGANT GEORGIAN WORCESTER. Please remember that refreshments will be served BEFORE our talk, so doors will be open at 7.00pm. Any help with chairs etc both before and after our talk would, as always, be greatly appreciated.
Clive has asked me to remind everyone that he is now taking bookings for next year’s trip to THE CHATEAUX & GARDENS OF THE LOIRE VALLEY. Details are in the September Newsletter or on our website, www.worcestermalvernntcentre.org.uk If you have not previously visited the Loire Valley then please be assured that this is a wonderful area and the planned itinerary can only delight you. Felicity and myself were in Saumur earlier this year; there was so much to see and do every day, all against the backdrop of the very scenic Loire river. (and did I mention the wine?)
We have recently been contacted by Historic Houses. (this was formerly known as HHA). Following a recent membership survey, Historic Houses have found that many of their members are also National Trust Members, which is hardly surprising given that both organisations offer the opportunity to visit an amazing variety of landscapes and buildings. With that in mind Historic Houses are offering National Trust Members £5 off membership when they use the HHNT19 code on the joining page. Members can also call 020 7259 5699 and quote the same code if they prefer to talk to someone rather than fill in on-line.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 8th October.
